My First Vinyl Lettering

I can finally post this now that the grandparents have received their Vinyl Lettering Board.

Painting this one was so difficult because I didn't have any more money this month to spend on presents. Plus I wanted colors that would match the grandparents' houses. So I looked through my paints and kept mixing colors. I started out with some yellow and that green and then later added the silver for my parents'.

I did a blue color with silver for my husband's parents. It made it look like denim. I figured this blue color would work well in their home since they have a lot of wood in their home.

I was so scared about the vinyl! It was my first time doing it...it's easier in some ways than rub-on letters for scrapbooking. I just went really slow and peeled it a little at a time. Follow the directions of peeling it from the corner.

Since my parents have 3 kids, I did 3 magnets for them. For now I'm the only one of their kids who has a kid. My brother is going to have  a baby soon. But until then my son will take over the board =D

My husband's parents have 6 children, and he's the only one with a child so until his brothers get kids, our son will occupy this board too =D

For the magnets, I bought those glass beads and modge-podged a heart (punched from scrapbook paper) to the back. Then put a super strong magnet on the back of each one with hot glue. Then I put regular magnet pieces on the board. I thought about doing metal all across the board and covering it in scrapbook paper, but since this was my first time doing a vinyl board, I tried to make it as simple as possible.

I'd love to hear about others' experiences with vinyl lettering and any tips because I definitely want to do more of these!

Being Lucky...

I've been a lucky girl this month! You can be too if you check out giveaways on sites or just by simply being a follower. Lots of sites just have simple ways of entering too and especially try for those sites who don't have many entries because then your chances are higher! Only enter things that you want though...

Let me know if you've been lucky lately! I'd love to hear about your wins.

All of these wins sure brightened my day and really this month. This month has been a tough one on me...my mom was in the hospital with heart problems. She's a little better now, but has to be careful.

Here's all my wins from this month!
6 Piece Silouhette Ornaments from Fabric Creations on Somewhat Simple's 12 Giveaways of Christmas (December 25) I can't wait to get one of my son and then maybe send some pictures of my brothers and I when we were little to give my parents.

$10 Certificate to Kate's Craft Corner (December 16th) I'm using it on her cute and affordable Hooded Bath Towels.

A Christmas Decor Plate from UCreate's Followers Rock Giveaway (December 11) I received this so quickly. I love it! It's so beautiful and gives me some more Christmas decor since we still don't have much in decor.

Ultimate Blog Package from A Blog To Brag About  (December 1st) currently in progress...I can't wait to have my new blog design

Gratitude Jars

inspired by Little Birdie Secrets Thankful Jars

I took this idea to use for an Activity/Achievement Day Girls activity for church.

We modge podge "Our Gratitude Jar" on the front along with the Book of Mormon scripture: "Live in Thanksgiving daily"

Then the girls took squares of scrapbook paper and modge podged that around their jar. Then they wrote down things that they were grateful for on strips of scrapbook paper.

Then we added a piece of fabric under their lid (canning jars) to decorate it more. The girls could then take them home to have their families write down what they were grateful for on extra strips of paper. Lastly their families could either link all the strips to make a paper chain to hang up or put on their Christmas tree or just leave their gratitude in the jar.

Simplified, perfect for 8-9 year olds!

Cinnamon Ornaments

My friend invited my family to their FHE to make some cinnamon ornaments. She made the dough, cut and baked them. We then decorated them with puff paint.

  • 10T applesauce
  • 4 oz cinnamon
  • about 1 t elmers glue

Here are the ones I decorated.

These smelled so delicious that it was difficult to remember that they are NOT edible.

Here's another link of a site that made these and she included pictures of the process.

Hosting my first Giveaway for You Can Make This!

I'm so excited to host my first giveaway on this site from...

You Can Make This has a new series running on their YouCanMakeThis blog: DIY Gift Giving. With the holidays just around the corner, they thought it would be fun to put together a series of gift giving ideas you can make! You’ll learn some fun new techniques, tips and ideas not only for the people on your list, but also creative ways to decorate your home! As if that is not enough, THEY are also giving away hundreds of dollars in gift certificates just for watching the videos and answering a question on the blog!

Check out their latest video and then go on over and download your FREE oven mitt pattern and instructions. I already downloaded mine, and I'm excited to actually be able to make something and not be stressed about figuring it all out! After you've download the pattern, go answer their $5 Stocking Stuffer Question on their blog.

Check out more videos of them on YouTube or on their blog.

You Can Make This sent me an e-book to review of my choice. I chose the Duet Apron Set e-book since we just bought our son a little kitchen set for his birthday. I am going to make him a boy apron and me an apron too. I don't have a chance to try it until after the holidays, but just looking at their e-book. It's going to be EASY! I am not a talented sewer at all yet, but I really want to learn. I received a sewing machine for my college graduation a couple years ago from my parents. I've only made a couple things on it so far because I have no idea what I'm doing. I have bought some fabric and patterns at the store, but the patterns are SO CONFUSING! Well not these patterns and instructions from You Can Make This! It's so detailed and step by step, that I know I won't have any problems making these aprons! Thank you so much You Can Make This!!!! I wish I had discovered this site sooner because then I could really use my sewing machine and make a bunch of gifts for friends and family. I've already put all my gifts together for this year, but next year I'll be all set and it will be a lot easier!!

You Can Make This is giving away a bundle that includes instructions for making the Kimberbell Kids 24” Doll and “Gift-Giver” Patterns. These are the perfect toys to make every little ones eyes light up on Christmas morning.

Christmas Jars

So I just finished reading Christmas Jars by Jason F. Wright for the third time (once a year). I love it! It's the perfect book for the holiday season and really shares about the true meaning of Christmas, having the pure love of Christ. So if you haven't read it, check your library or a book store or online and get your hands on it. The last chapter always gets me crying!
Jason F. Wright also recently came out with Christmas Jars Reunion (I still have to read that one) and Penny's Christmas Jar Miracle (children's book-I now own this one and plan on reading it soon).

Kodak Online

I don't know if you've seen the $15 certificate code for Kodak but I signed up for it to try them out. I ordered a framed picture. The frame was perfect and the cherry color matched perfectly with my other cherry wood stuff. Very nice!

BUT I was disappointed with the pictures prints that I also ordered. The paper quality is super thin and flimsy. Unfortunately, I most likely will not be ordering from them again.
I love Shutterfly and their quality. Plus they always seem to be doing offers for free prints. Plus through other sites, I've received at least 2 free photo book offers for Shutterfly. Then I already had 2 other offers from them.
When I need prints quick, I usually go to Walgreens or Wal-mart one hour online. I am pleased with their quality too. The one thing I don't like about Walgreens pictures though; is that they don't have the date of the picture on the back like most places do. I hate not knowing the date of my pictures!

*I wasn't compensated in any way for this post. See my Disclosure Policy.

Disclosure Policy

New Federal Trade Commission guidelines
"The guidelines will mandate that bloggers that have a material connection to advertisers must disclose the relationship. Why? Well, according to what I [The Coupon Project] can piece together, the FTC feels it's misleading for readers to remain unaware that bloggers may be receiving money or products for their posts. To some degree, I can understand that. What is going to be difficult, however, is determining the level of disclosures needed."
Starting - December 1st - all bloggers must disclose if they receive compensation (including products) as a result of their post, or they could be subjected to a fine of $11,000 per occurrence. That ain't no parking ticket, folks.

Well I don't know if this really applies to me and I don't understand all of it so just in case I've kinda put something together. I have not yet received any compensation as of today, December 1st, but I would like to start trying to in more efforts to spread the word about all other people like me who are crafty and are trying to sell their craft items.
