It's been a long time, but I haven't totally been slacking! In the last 2 months, I've really focused on portion control and carb control =). Ever since I had gestational diabetes when I was last pregnant, I've become more aware about carbs. I love carbs especially pastas and breads, but now I understand about choosing better carbs (more fiber/whole grains). From being educated on diabetes, I understand a lot more why America has such an obese population and many people who become diabetic.
Also the USDA has now come out with MyPlate which goes well with what I learned on how to eat when I had gestational diabetes.
Half your plate should be fruits and veggies...
Along with that, I've been trying gymnastics moves as I help my son feel more comfortable in his preschool gymnastics class. I'm no gymnast, that's for sure, but I was amazed that I couldn't even do a bridge. I'm so weak! Then once I stayed with my son in his class and did the stretches. Wow that helped so much. One new goal is to do stretches every day.
I've also tried Zumba for a Relief Society activity at my church, but I didn't do it well since I had my kids with me. I would love to try and do Zumba more.
With all of this, I even reached 127 lbs. for a week, but have gained it back...

How is everyone else doing????

57th Mommy Mondays - Baby Sign Language REVIEW

Earlier this month, I received an amazing product to review from Baby Sign Language. I've always been interested in sign language and know several signs like the alphabet, "more", "please", "thank you" and several others that I picked learned from doing church songs. I try to teach my kids as babies those basic signs that I know, but they didn't/haven't been too interested in doing it.
Currently, I've been teaching a small group of friend's kids (3 kids plus my son) preschool and decided to try the Deluxe Teaching Kit that I received from Baby Sign Language with them. I did a test run with some signs just with my baby girl who is 10 months now, and my son who is 3 saw me and picked up on them so quickly! Now every time I say/sign milk to my baby girl, my son will come, say and sign "more milk." Then with my preschool kids, I taught them 4 words each week (1 per kid) using the flashcards and then an additional word that corresponded with that week's letter. My son knows ALL of them already (since I'm with him a lot)! The other kids are starting to pick up on them too (during our time 2x a week for 1.5 hours). I have become so excited to see how quickly they are picking them up. So far my son knows all of these signs just from the last 2 weeks: more, milk, please, thank you, sorry, car, train, boat, book, fish, rainbow, airplane, potty. He tries to do the alphabet with me too.
One night when I was putting my baby girl down for bed, he screamed for me. I come running back to where he was, and he's like "Look Mom, I can do it! See!" as he signs "Airplane" (same fingers as I Love You but pointed down) - pretty tricky sign for a 3 year old. It was so cute to know that he had been practicing all by himself!
It hasn't been hard at all to teach them either! The flashcards are so simple to use and are very durable. The dictionary too has been great for finding words that correspond with my letter of the week. I've tried other flashcards and posters before along with watching movies, but the flashcards were too small, hard to read and not durable. The posters weren't very pretty or easy to read either. Movies are hard to follow sometimes. Baby Sign Language's flashcards are 4x6 - large and durable. They're easy to read on their white background too.

Right now they even have a deal on their Deluxe Teaching Kit that I would highly recommend!

76th Fashionable Fridays

I was super tired this day!
Here's one of my favorite blue cap sleeve shirts (from a Women's Clothing Swap) paired with a 3/4 cardigan. Layering sure is much easier in the winter and I feel more put together even though I'm so tired.

75th Fashionable Fridays

In church, I have a new calling of working with the Young Women as the Personal Progress Leader. I'm super excited to work with the Young Women because I joined the Church (LDS) when I was 10 so did most of my growing in the Gospel in Young Women's. Though I'm excited, I'm super nervous too because most days I'm too tired to do my hair or make-up, but since I was in charge that night with Personal Progress, I tried to dress nicely and show the young women, I'm not a total mess with hair, fashion, make-up so they can look to me as their leader.

I put concealer, some blush, eyeliner and mascara. Then I've been practicing layering my clothes like my friend, Brittany has been showing how to do on her blog, Population 250. My belt in this picture is technically a headband from Forever and a Day, but thought it would be cool to wear as a belt. I just added a ponytail like you do to your pants when you're in the early stages of pregnancy and VIOLA. I felt "cool." =)

Our 2nd Date

At the Dance

Ever heard of Freecycle!? I love it especially since we're way low on money and my husband already has to lose hours at his job again.
Anyway here are some of the following tops I've worn in January that I received FREE that no one wanted any more paired with my jeans faves from Old Navy. Pretty simple outfits, but I have needed simple in my life!

Crochet Headband with Crochet Flower from Forever and a Day  - my favorite crochet style place!

This is a fave since it's loose fitting.

73rd Fashionable Fridays - Paint that Nail

Today I'm going to show you how to do these kisses, kiss marks or lips, whatever you want to call them, LOL, for Valentine's day! Its quick and easy to do!

First put a base coat on your nails then pick a color to paint your nails, I chose to paint mine white with Revlon- white on white then put one coat of Tip Toe- pretty in pink.

Then with a detail brush, tooth pick or anything small to create the lips, make a lower case "m" but more elongated and not as high of an arch. I used a detail brush with acrylic paint but any paint will work or nail polish would be fine!

Then make the bottom lip by just making a curved line almost connected to the upper lip.

Once you have repeated that on all your nails going in different directions, your nails should look something like this.

I chose to add some glitter over the lips which was China Glaze- ring in the red with a detail brush but of course you could just skip this step and add a top coat! That's it, you're finished with your Valentine's Day nails! I hope you all liked this and had a great day!

Thanks Kristyn! Perfectly kissable for Valentine's Day! For more ideas on your nails, be sure to check out Paint that Nail!

What to Expect Winner!

Ahhh it's February already! My break is over...if you call it that. My kids were sick once every week (mostly my son) just enough to throw me off. On Sunday, he threw up in our church library right before my husband and I had to teach lessons. Oh well. Let's hope February has no sicknesses for my family!
I'm somewhat ready to get back things to normal on here for you so be on the look out for some great posts =) I would have loved to have my new blog look ready too, but it's not yet. My husband is still working on it for me.

Now for the winner of the What to Expect books (1st year and 2nd year) - #6 bcriminger is the winner! Congrats!
