Pinatas

  1. Rip newspaper into 1x4 inch strips.

2. Create paste: 2 cups flour and 1 cup water. Creates a thin, slightly clumpy paste.

3. Dip newspaper strips into paste, wipe excess and place on balloon. Repeat until whole balloon is covered, but leave a small 2 in. diameter uncovered so that you can later pop the balloon and fill with candy. We were running out of time so we started to use those foam paint brushes to make it faster. We put some paste on the balloon, put a strip of newspaper and then covered the strip with more paste. I wasn't able to salvage/get clean the foam brushes after use though.

4. Do 1 layer at a time, let dry. Do 1-2 more layers the same way. Our balloons ended up popping on their own while it was drying. So we had to be really careful doing our other layers.

5. Then we're going to spray paint ours in gold. This activity went a long with our Ten Virgins lesson. So we're making drops of oil pinatas. The candy inside will be what they earned by doing good things that fill their lamp to be prepared for the Second Coming.

That looks like fun. We are actually going to make one for my little guy's bday. I enjoyed your tips. Thanks for sharing at 'Look at me, I'm SO Crafty!' at Fun to Craft.
